The name labradorite comes from the place of its discovery, namely Labrador. It belongs to the group of calcalkaline feldspars.
It is a fascinating stone to look at, because it has metallic bluish, yellow, green or red reflections when it is moved in front of the light.
This optical phenomenon is called labradorescence. It is used in gemology, but also for ornamental facade coverings. Its hardness is 7 on the Mohs scale.
